학문은 학문다워야 한다. 신앙 때문에 이성적 판단을 억눌러서는 안된다. 21세기를 살아가는 어떤 ‘신앙인’들은 그 ‘신앙’ 때문에 여전히 지구가 평평하다고 믿는다(flat earthers). 성경이 그렇게 증언하고 있다는 것이다. 이것이 얼마나 어리석은 일인가? 신앙인이라고 해서 이성을 포기해서는 안된다. 그러나 신앙은 이성의 지배를 받아서는 안된다.
