조엘 베이든의 The Composition of the Pentateuch의 한글 번역서입니다. 제가 번역했고, CLC에서 출판했습니다. 학술서로서 깊이가 있으며, 매우 쉽게 쓰였기 때문에 일반 자들도 충분히 읽을 수있습니다.
의미는 독자와 본문이 만남으로 발생하며, 이는 성경의 의미도 마찬가지다. 하지만 성경 읽기는 교리가 선지식을 강하게 형성하고 있어 실제로 읽는 것으로 볼 수 없다. 대표적으로 선악과 사건(창3)이 그렇다. 이 본문을 순수한 읽기의 태도로 다시 접근하면 매우 새로운 의미가 드러난다.
창조 기사의 첫 부분에 등장하는 ‘흑암’, ‘깊음’ ‘수면’ 등 어휘들은 고대 근동의 세계관을 이해해야 비로소 그 의미를 알 수 있는 표현들이다. 창세기의 창조 직전 상황은 혼돈이며 ‘창조’의 개념은 혼돈의 괴물을 무찔러 싸우는 창조자의 승리의 결과, 즉 신적 질서였다.
