Old Testament vs. Hebrew Bible
The term “Old Testament” has some limitations but Christians are rarely willing to use an alternative. But most biblical scholars in the U.S do. What is the cause?
‘구약’이라는 명칭이 갖는 한계 혹은 이 명칭이 내포한 부정적 의미에도 불구하고 다른 대안을 굳이 만들어 사용해야한다고 느끼는 사람은 많지않다. 하지만 (미국)성서학계는 ‘히브리어성서’라는 말을 주로 쓴다. 무엇이 그들로 하여금 익숙함을 포기해 가면서까지 Hebrew Bible이라는 이름을 더 선호하도록 했을까?
The main speaker in the book of Ecclesiastes is often considered to be Solomon, or sometimes he is called “the preacher.” But the name does not appear in the text, and the Hebrew word for “the preacher” does not mean “preacher.”
